Sock Cupcake Tutorial - Inspiration Made Simple, Holiday Gift Idea (2024)

Sock Cupcakes are the perfect gift for teachers for the Holiday. I decided to make up several for my daughter’s teachers this year and I’ll be pairing them with a gift card to Amazon. These gifts are great for winter and only require a pair of fuzzy socks, some cardstock, a pom-pom, and some hot glue!

Sock Cupcake Ingredients:

One pair of fuzzy socks

One red pom-pom

Cardstock – to create the cupcake liner and tag (I used a piece of 12×12 cardstock scrapbook paper)

Glue or tape

Scissors

Sock Cupcake Directions:

Start by rolling up the pair of socks. The easiest way is to start at the toe and roll toward the ankle portion, making sure to keep the bottom flat so that the cupcake will stand upright.

The image above is the top part of the rolled socks and the image below is the bottom of the cupcake – see how it is flat?

Once you are done rolling grab the fuzzy socks, grab a rubber band, a piece of yarn, or a hair band and secure the rolled “cupcake” into place. I prefer to use two rubber bands as pictured below.

Grab the cardstock and cut out a fancy design. I created a cupcake liner in my design program and converted it for use on my Cricut (affiliate link for your convenience), but it would also be simple to draw and hand-cut a liner. My liner was 12 inches long and 2.25 inches high.

Wrap the liner around the cupcake. If there are gaps along the top edge of the wrapper, that is OK, we’ll fix them in the next step. The liner will have a slight overlap where you’ll secure it with glue or tape.

If needed, gently push down the edges of the sock to make it look like it is “puffed” over the wrapper – fluff the sock to make it look the way you want.

Next, fit the fluffy pom pom into the fold at the top of the cake as if it were a cherry topper.

That’s it, your fluffy cupcake socks are done! If you want to fancy this perfect little gift up a bit, wrap it in a cellophane bag and tie it off with some cute ribbon. Or place it in a gift box or gift bag. Either way, the recipient is sure to smile!

I came up with this cute little rhyme and put it on a tag to accompany my cupcakes:

This cupcake is not to eat,

it was “baked” with love,

to warm your feet.

I’ve made three versions of the tag available for download – one that says “Merry Christmas”, one that says “Happy Holidays” and one that says “Season’s Greetings”.

Download the Cupcake Gift Tag with Poem pdf.
For personal use only. Do not alter.

Save the gift tag file to your computer and open it in Adobe Reader. Send the file to the printer. Once printed, trim the tags and attach to the cute cupcake!

Cupcakes are also easy to make using this same concept with other mediums – think wash clothes, onesies, bibs, etc!

I loved this idea! I’m doing this for the onesies and other clothing for a baby shower. They’re gorgeous although not quite as obvious as cupcakes since they aren’t as fluffy and perfectly rolled since they have lovely velcro and elastic waists.

I would love a tute using wash cloths as well. It was so ironic I just saw a couple of these made (with wash cloths)at our department store yesterday. This time instead of using cupcake liners they had used plastic cones and made it look like ice creams and also they had used bubble tea plastic cups and topped it with a wash cloth ‘cream’ on top with a red pom pom cherry. And of course as you had suggested, tied with clear cellophane and tied with a pretty ribbon. thanks again

Do you still have the cut file for the cupcake liner? I have a few for my silhouette cameo, but they are more curved.
